New Trends in Office Design

As anyone who’s ever worked in an office knows, space drives function. The more cluttered and unorganized your work area, the less productive you are. That is why many of the top corporations around the world are now committing tons of resources to building more open and shared workspaces in their offices. In their minds, the easier it is for their employees to interact and solve problems, the more profitable the organization can be.

A company’s image is also very important not only to its customers but also to its employees. The right combination of style, color, and lighting in an office can be essential in conveying the ideas of corporate stability and innovation to an audience. The change that goes in to making the space more esthetically pleasing is also a sign that your company is able to change with the times and stay a viable solution to the customer’s problem.

As the world of technology continues to change the way we do business, so does the environment in which we do business in. As mentioned above, many companies are coming up with innovative ways to increase workforce productivity by following some of the new trends in interior office design. Below are a few new trends that are starting to be implemented. See if your company could benefit from using one of these design techniques or start a new design trend yourself!

1. Consolidation – This process consists of reorganizing the existing layout of an office into a more efficient, smaller space by consolidating workers by task. The idea behind this is that each employee works next to or near the group of people he or she most needs to get their job done. This allows for easier circulation and an increased sense of camaraderie amongst employees.

2. Open Environment – This approach has been very popular with companies like Google and Intel because of its ability to accommodate a large amount of employees in a single room. By breaking down physical barriers and creating an open environment communication and flexibility to change is maximized. Modular Conference Table

3. User-Friendly Office Furniture – New trends in office systems furniture has led to some really innovative product designs that do a lot to increase the functionality of an office by being more
universal and flexible. One example of this is a new conference table that breaks apart into separate desks allowing a team of people to work together or split apart and work on their own.

4. Shared Environments – This trend is becoming popular because workers like to have a designated space where they can be completely removed from the general work area to do things like make phone calls and do research. The space is usually a small room with a lounge, small tables, and dim lighting.

5. Accommodating Technology – This approach involves redesigning the workspace to accommodate the new ways in which technology has impacted the business world.  More and more workers are less tied to their desk because of new technological devices like the smart phone and tablet PC’s. This makes it essential that their space be easily accessed throughout the day and that their devices have the proper connections and power supply. There are even new floating power strips that prevent workers from having to bend over under their desk to plug-in their devices.
